Upcycle design is getting more and more popular. At least two reasons why more people like it are the story/history behind the design and the fun factor. I’ve said it many times before, but design which creates a smile has more impact. And design with a story or history has so much more value and is therefore more appreciated.
Searching for upcycle design is like a sort of treasure hunt. At upcycleDZINE we strive to publish unique design or art that stands out. That can be the story of an object, type of object/material or the way in which an object has been used.
Big knot of ropes with playful warm light
For instance, today’s featured upcycle design is made out of an object that has been shown on upcycleDZINE before. But the way in which the object is used is very original and fun. I’m talking about a rope or cable, shown earlier in Rope Wall Lamp, Rope & Metal Beam Light and Climbing Lamp.
And now onto the design in this article that also uses rope, but in an entirely different and stylish way. This upcycle design pendant lamp is called Cabos Adujados. A creation by Argentine designer Silvina Descole who studied architecture at the University of Buenos Aires. She got her degree in 1989 and founded Estudio De in 2000.
Cabos Adujados is a lamp made out of upcycled materials from shipyard ‘La Boca’ in Bueno Aires. The design consists of coiled rope and a bulb protected by a grille to protect the rope against heat. The pendants are suspended with a pulley out of wood and wrought iron.

The one-of-a-kind Cabos Adujados Lamp was exhibited at Casa Foa 2012. I don’t know what kind of impression this lamp made on you, but I added this piece of upcycle design to my favourites list. It’s just so intriguing to see that warm playful light from within a big knot of ropes.
