Today upcycleDZINE features upcycle design made out of one of the most elegant and classic materials around. There are quite some upcycle designers that turn a cup and saucer into a nice little pendant lamp. There’s even a designer that made a sound system using old coffee cups. And last but not least we have shown an elegant cup chandelier.
Upcycled porcelain gets industrial look
And now upcycleDZINE’s proud to show you Dutch design made out of upcycling porcelain cups. The creation is called CUPLIGHT Chandelier and is designed by Lucas & Lucas. A design studio founded in 2013 by Marijke Lucas and her husband Sander Lucas.
The chandelier is made out of twelve porcelain coffeecups. The classic version comes with black and white fabric cable and aluminium light sockets. The special edition comes with grey fabric cable and brass sockets.
Graphic designer Marijke Lucas and product designer Sander Lucas are both graduates from Design Academy Eindhoven. Objects from everyday life inspire them. By adjusting, adding and combining, they create new products and finish them with a special eye for detail.
Lucas & Lucas:
“We are collectors. Quirky things we find inspire us. We love to combine materials and objects that don’t match at first glance, to create something new, something unusual. Written off products and objets trouvés are often the starting points of our design process. The story that these objects carry with them inspires us to create new products with a character of its own.”

To me the CUPLIGHT Chandelier is a stylish and intriguing piece of upcycle design. Especially the way the light sockets play with the black/white or gray fabric cable, gives the chandelier an industrial look. CUPLIGHT Chandelier can be purchased online.
