In the last post about upcycle design made out of glass I said the following: In our everyday life one can’t imagine a world without Glass. Just look around you to see what items are using or are made out of glass. That’s why there’s also a lot of glass thrown away and recycled. One of the companies that’s specialized in up-cycling bottles is Lucirmás, based in Barcelona | Spain. They make handcrafted objects from 100% recycled glass, offering the quality of a beautiful, artisan product.
Wine bottle that works as a lamp
And Lucirmás is one of the artisans that made the upcyle design shown here. The lamp is called ‘LaFlor‘ and is designed by design studio Nutcreatives, founded by Jon Marín and Àlex Jiménez and also based in Barcelona. Their philosophy: “For us objects belong to systems, so questions such as sustainability, ecological transparence, social issues and local economy development are the core of our design vision.”
LaFlor mainly consists of two parts, the bottle part and the lampshade part. It combines upcycling a glass bottle with the design of a lampshade in copper. The lamp is totally handmade by local artisans. LaFlor is easy to assemble and disassemble and has been designed in order to be sent by post, so it is both as lightweight and as flatpack as possible.
“Thus, we have designed a lamp that works as a lamp, not as a ‘lamp made of a recycled bottle’. To use recycled stuff is not an excuse to do a worse product.”
LaFlor distinguishes itself with enamel fixed by oven in 3 different colours: white, yellow and black-brown.
Again this design shows that wine bottles can be upcycled into very stylish quality design products.
